Controls and Functionalities

The Mapy.com service interface consists of several key elements that allow you to easily navigate and work with the map.

Map

The main part of the interface is an interactive map that displays the selected map layer. Basic map control differs depending on the platform.

  • Map movement: Press and hold the left mouse button while moving the map in the desired direction
  • Zoom in/out: Using the + and – buttons in the top right corner of the map, the + and – keys on the keyboard, or the mouse scroll wheel
  • Zoom box: Press and hold the Ctrl key while holding the left mouse button to create a zoom box for quickly zooming into a specific part of the map
  • Map movement: Using a gesture – placing one or more fingers on the screen and moving in the desired direction/swipe
  • Zoom in/out: Using a gesture – placing two fingers on the screen and then dragging them apart/together or using the vertical slider on the right side of the screen
  • Map rotation (azimuth change): Using a gesture – placing two fingers on the screen and rotating in the clockwise/counterclockwise direction
  • Measure distance as the crow flies: Using a gesture – placing two fingers on the screen and holding, the direct distance between the fingers is calculated and displayed automatically

Panel

A right panel is located next to the map. This panel contains several main sections. The content of the right panel changes depending on the currently selected section.

Search

Allows entering different types of queries, including city names, village, street names, addresses, company categories, specific companies, or tourist destinations. The result of search is a list of found places. Selecting a search result will take you to the place details.

Route Planning

Allows efficient planning of a journey using different modes of transportation.

Log in to My Mapy

This is used to sign in to a user account of Mapy.com service. Logging in is not necessary for working with the map, but it brings many additional features that cannot be used otherwise. For example, adding your own places and routes to My Mapy, adding ratings, photos, etc.

My Mapy

Section available only after logging in. It allows saving your own points, positions, planned routes, and recorded activities. These data can be synchronized between the web service and the mobile app.

Profile

The section is available only after logging in. It enables the management of user accounts, modification of the user interface (settings), information about location sharing, and more.

If needed, you can minimize the right panel and enlarge the area for displaying the map itself. There is an arrow button on the border between the map and the side panel for this purpose.

In the mobile application, the interface is adapted for touch control and smaller screens. Instead of the right panel, a bottom bar and pop-up menu are used. Search is available in the bar at the top of the screen. You can also search using a voice command.

Within the Application settings, you can choose a compact search mode, where the search bar is replaced by a search green icon in the bottom right corner. This maximizes the space for the map itself.

Basic Controls

Change Map

Allows switching between various map layers (e.g., outdoor, traffic, winter map, etc.) and enabling additional overlay layers (e.g., photographs, webcams, Land Registry data, etc.).

Aerial

Serves as a quick option for switching the map between aerial and other currently selected map layers.

3D View

Is used to switch the current map layer to a spatial 3D view. This is not available for traffic maps.

Panorama

Serves to switch to the display of spherical photographs from the street network (so-called Panorama).

Additional Map Functions
  • Selecting a specific place and displaying a Place Detail can be done by:
    • Clicking on interactive icons on the map
    • Via the context menu over the map (right mouse button) and then selecting “What is here”
  • My location: Clicking on the “My Location” icon prompts the browser to approximate your location. All modern browsers offer this function. Allowing location access will show your approximate position on the map. The My Location function targets the user’s location using a publicly available geolocation database that employs data from the browser, particularly the IP address and connected networks. Accuracy increases with connection through a wireless mobile network. “Wired” connection may result in highly inaccurate positioning (up to hundreds of kilometers), which cannot be pinpointed more accurately
  • Scale: The current map scale is displayed at the bottom left corner of the map and changes dynamically with the zoom level
