Location Sharing

In the Mapy.com app, you can share your location in several ways: all the time, for a selected time period, only during a specific route with navigation, or just a chosen place on the map. This lets you easily show others where you are or share a specific location that is important to them.

Permanent Location Sharing

In the Menu, you will find the Location sharing section. In the Shared with me tab, you can see an overview of all users who share their location with you through the app. For each contact, you can hide their location on the map or completely remove sharing.

The Sharing tab contains information about who you are sharing your location with. After sending a sharing invitation, you will see it in the Sharing tab along with its status and remaining validity time. At this stage, you can cancel the invitation or resend it.

Here, you can also create a New Sharing – when setting it up, you can choose whether to share your location continuously or for a specific duration. While creating a sharing, you can also request mutual sharing and decide whether to share your navigation progress (i.e., information about the route, destination, and estimated arrival time).

After sending a sharing invitation, you will see it in the Sharing tab along with its status and remaining validity time. At this stage, you can cancel the invitation or resend it.

In the Sharing tab, you can also enable the Find My Phone feature, which allows you to see your phone’s location on the map after signing in to your account on another device.

Accepting an Invitation

The invited user accepts the invitation by clicking the link in the invitation. They will be redirected to the map, and the sharing will be activated.

During active navigation in the mobile app, you can share your current location along the route while also tracking the location of your friends.

  • In the app’s main menu, select the Route option and plan your trip
  • When you start navigation, pull the navigation card upward
  • Select Share location
  • A link will be generated, which you can then share using your preferred method (SMS, email, messenger, social media, etc.)
  • A notification that you are sharing your location will appear at the bottom of the navigation card. Sharing can be stopped manually or will automatically turn off upon reaching the destination.

If you share your location continuously with the option to show navigation progress, both your location and the route with the estimated arrival time will automatically be displayed when entering navigation mode. After finishing navigation, location sharing will remain active, but without route information.

Tracking the location of other users

Tracking the location of other users is possible both on the web and in the mobile app.

If you receive a location-sharing link from another user and click on it, a Mapy.com web page will automatically open showing the user’s current location. If the link does not open automatically, you can copy and paste it into your browser’s address bar.

You can continue using the maps as usual, regardless of ongoing location sharing.

You can reopen a shared location at any time by clicking on Location Sharing in your profile section in the top-right corner, where you can also manage individual shares.

If you receive a location-sharing link from another user and click on it, their current location will be displayed directly in the app. If the link does not open automatically, you can copy it and paste it into the search field within the app.

You can continue using the app normally, regardless of ongoing location sharing.

Ongoing and historical shares can be reopened at any time through the Location Sharing option in the main menu of the app, where you can also manage individual shares.

Frequently Asked Questions about Location Sharing

Why isn’t the shared location up to date?
  1. The sharing user may have revoked location permissions (the setting “Always” on Android or “Always” / “While Using the App” on iOS is required).
  2. No internet connection or data limit exceeded – without internet, location information cannot be sent.
  3. The sharing user reinstalled the app:
    • Android: sharing is restored automatically.
    • iOS: sharing needs to be set up again manually.
  4. The user changed devices – when changing devices, the sharing user can transfer location sharing using the dialog shown in the Location Sharing section.
Is my location shared automatically across all my devices?

No. Only the location of the device from which sharing was started is shared.

Sharing a place on the map

  • In the mobile app, press and hold on any place on the map
  • Information about the place, including coordinates, will be displayed, and active operations are available in the bottom bar
  • Select the Share option
  • A list of apps through which you can send the location as a link to Mapy.com (e.g., SMS, email, messenger, social networks, etc.) will be displayed
  • Select the appropriate app and confirm sharing

Fast location sharing is also possible by long pressing on the app icon. You will see the details of the place where you are currently located, and the sharing menu will open automatically.

You can also share directly via coordinates. Open the place details, find the section with the location information, and tap on the coordinates entry in one of the available formats (WGS84, S-JTSK OLC, MGRS). The coordinates will automatically be copied in text form to your clipboard, which you can then paste into any other app.
