Importing GPX

You can import a GPX file in both the web and mobile applications. Currently, mapy.com supports working with files in the *.gpx format. It can import routes (TRK) and waypoints (WPT) from this file. Multiple files can be imported at once. To import a GPX file, you need to log in with your user account.

File Import

You can start the import in several ways:

  • Drag and drop the file directly into the mapy.com window
  • From the Tools menu, select Import GPX
  • In My Mapy, in the Saved section (Places and routes), choose Import GPX

You can start the import in several ways:

  • In My Mapy, in the Saved section (3 dots), choose Import GPX
  • In your phone’s files, open the given GPX file, choose the option to open in the mapy.com application

Viewing Data from the File

After import, the input file is processed in the background. If valid, a preview of its content will be displayed.

On the left of the map, you can see all the routes and waypoints contained in the file. In the right panel, you see their list. If you just want to view the file’s content over the map background and do not plan to work with it further, you can simply close the right panel with a cross or switch directly to another function.

In the application, after clicking on the file name on the map, you will see all the routes and waypoints contained in the file.

Saving Data to My Mapy

If you want to use the data from the imported file further, for example, to synchronize it to the mobile application, plan to selected points, or display it among your activities, you need to save the import data to My Mapy. Before saving, you can make certain settings (pencil icon next to the record).

  • If the file contains multiple routes or points, you can choose whether to save everything or only part of the content. If you want to exclude certain points from saving, choose the Edit option and then select the content you want to delete (do not want to save)
  • If the imported route contains altitude information, you can set whether to use the data from the file for the elevation profile or use data from the terrain model
  • If the route contains time and speed information, you can choose whether to save the route as a Way (a simple line on the map without time information) or as an Activity (a record including date, time, and speed, appearing among your activities)

Click the Save selected button, then choose the folder where the data will be saved. Duplicates are checked during saving (whether the folder already contains points or routes in the same place). If so, you will be notified and you can choose whether to save the duplicate record or only new records. Activity duplicates are checked across all activities, not just within a folder.

After successful saving, the import will close, and the saved content will be displayed in the folder.

Limits and Restrictions

For technical reasons, it is possible to import files that can contain a maximum of 1000 individual points or routes. A route cannot be longer than 70,000 points.
