Searching
Simply enter the first few characters of an address, city name, or other place and select a suggestion from the dropdown, or confirm the expression. The more precisely you formulate the query, the better the result will be. After pressing the Enter key, the expression will be searched. For some results, it may be noted why they were found (e.g., based on search, rating, or web content). Results are also influenced by the map section you are looking at, your current location (if activated), and the language in which you enter the query. In the Czech Republic, results are affected by auctions (paid company profiles are placed higher).
The system can recognize typos and offers relevant results based on the current location and displayed map.
- You can search not only addresses and cities in the Czech Republic but all over the world
- Found streets are colorfully marked throughout their length, and districts and regions are displayed with their boundaries
- In the same way, you can search and mark entire mountain ranges, protected landscape areas, national parks, watercourses, reservoirs, and many other interesting locations
In the web application, if multiple results are found, the map automatically switches to a less distracting Suppressed Map mode, where the results are more visible. When searching for a specific place, the map remains unchanged.
Logged-in users can disable the Suppressed Map during search results in Settings.
All search results matching the entered query are displayed in the panel. Each result is represented by a card with the name of the place, address, overall rating, and possibly other information. The result is interpreted on the map in the form of a colorful pin, highlighted line, or area. Results automatically update as you move around the map. If the search based on your query returns only one result, the Place Details is displayed directly in such a case.
You can easily delete the searched query using the cross in the search field.
Suggestions
As soon as you type the first character, the search begins to offer probable variants of what you are looking for. They are displayed:
- Favorite places
- Places from search history
- Saved items in My Mapy
- Categories (e.g., restaurants, trips)
- Frequently searched queries
- Organic results
These options are combined and displayed. By clicking, you get to the place in question, or the expression is searched. If we do not have any suggested result for the entered text, we offer to search the query (e.g., Search “restaurants with good food” in the vicinity, etc.).
If you want to find an address, e.g., “Kutnohorská 456”, just write “Kutno” and the suggester will complete it. On the right, a “no.” button will appear, which you can easily use to add the number.
Beside a suggested result, you’ll find a Route button. Clicking it immediately adds the place as a destination to the planner. When you click the search box, a menu with search history, categories (e.g., trip tips, restaurants, etc.), and other items is displayed.
The mobile app for logged-in users displays so-called favorite targets in the history. Places where you most often navigate to. Favorite targets are sorted with regard to your current location and your behavior history. Each target shows information about the driving time by car. If you have set items Home and Work, they will also be displayed here. Favorite targets are accessible even offline. You can delete an item or edit the location for Home and Work items by clicking and holding the selected target.
Home and Work
If you have the locations Home and Work saved in My Mapy in the section Places and Routes, then you can use these names Home and Work within the search engine and when planning a route. You can use these names in the same way for searching or planning a route in other selected language versions of the application. For example:
- EN: Home, Work
- DE: Zuhause, Heim, Haus, Arbeit, Arbeitsplatz
- SK: Doma, Domov, Práca
Searching by Categories
In addition to searching by the name of a specific place, it is also possible to search based on the category name. We can, for example, suggest a weekend trip or find the nearest hairdresser, car service, and restaurant. If you don’t know the name of a specific place, just enter the name of the category, for example, castle, swimming pool, playground, and the like in the search engine. Selected categories that might interest you are displayed below when you click the search field. By clicking on the category, the results are displayed immediately. Categories are sorted by frequency of use. If the category you are looking for is missing on Mapy.com, let us know via Error Reporting.
In the mobile app, categories are accessible offline. They are only limited to the 16 most common ones.
Filtering Results
Search results for selected categories can be filtered according to the parameters of ratings (minimum average place rating) and opening hours (the place is currently open). This feature is available only online. Clicking on the category Tips for a Trip shows interesting places and trip routes recommended for an outing. When searching for this category, the search results prioritize objects near the place you are viewing on the map. For results from other areas, enter the name of the area directly into the search window.
Search in the Vicinity
If the map is zoomed in on a large detail, the search engine automatically prefers results near the place you are currently on the map. You can also directly enter a query to search in the vicinity of a certain point. Include the relevant word, operator in the search, e.g., “restaurant near Ivančice”.
