Android Auto and CarPlay

What are the supported versions?

The Mapy.com app for Android supports Android Auto from version 9.0.0. Maps for iOS support CarPlay from version 5.0.0.

The Mapy.com app is not available on the radio supporting Android Auto?

The correct version of the app is installed on the device, yet Mapy.com does not load in Android Auto. You need to restart the Android Auto app on your device. Please go to Phone Settings, Apps, Android Auto. First, force stop the app. Then, clear the app’s data. This should reinitialize the Android Auto app and load the Mapy.com app and others.

How to load a route with waypoints into Android Auto or CarPlay?

Both Android Auto and CarPlay restrict route planning to destinations without waypoints. They also do not support displaying shortcuts to favorite routes from My Mapy. Plan your route on your phone, you can save it or open it from My Mapy. Then start the navigation on the given route on the mobile. Only then connect the app with Android Auto or CarPlay. Your pre-prepared navigation on the route with waypoints will load onto the radio. It is also possible to connect when the route is still in the planner.

How to access navigation settings in Android Auto and CarPlay?

I need to change the navigation voice, switch to a 2D view, etc. The app does not yet include navigation settings directly in Android Auto or CarPlay. But all the settings are taken from the Mapy.com app on the phone. So just set it on the phone and then connect Android Auto or CarPlay. Android Auto can override the day and night mode controlled by the car. The setting is directly on Android Auto, Switching map layers, Settings in the upper right corner. Supported from version 9.45.0.

How to change the navigation volume in Android Auto and CarPlay?

The navigation volume in Android Auto or CarPlay is not controlled by the volume set on the phone, but directly by system settings within the car’s infotainment. Each car has this setting individually. You will mostly find it within the sound settings, or within the Android Auto or CarPlay settings in the given infotainment. The volume change can sometimes be made when the navigation gives a navigation prompt.

What are the technical limitations of Android Auto?

The app does not offer some features, like Google’s apps – Google Maps or Waze. Google API does not allow the same features for third-party navigation apps as it does for Google’s apps.

Limitations:

  • Limited set of templates: It is not possible to modify the app’s UI, everything is clearly defined for how it will look
  • Working with the map background (pan, gestures, zoom): Working with the map is not allowed in the API, map panning is supported from app version 9.20.0
  • Limitation on the number of displayed items: In all lists, a max. of 6 items can be used. More items are supported from app version 9.20.0
  • The dark map mode in navigation is linked to turning on the car lights: Android Auto can override the day and night mode controlled by the car. The setting is directly on Android Auto, Switching map layers, Settings in the upper right corner. Supported from version 9.45.0
