Android Application
From which version of Android can I use the app?
Currently, the application is available for Android 8.0 and higher. The reason is security certificates that are no longer supported for older devices. On devices with a lower version of Android, some online features may not function properly.
Does the Mapy.com app support Android Auto?
Yes. As of version 9.0.0.
Unable to download offline maps, updates and the app does not search standard queries
The mobile device is connected to home WiFi, yet the Mapy.com app refuses to communicate with the server’s list and does not download offline maps, offline map updates, and does not search standard queries online, does not plan online, it is not possible to send error reports or photos. We have adjusted the network settings of Seznam, yet this issue persists for some users. However, if you switch to another WiFi or mobile data, everything works normally. Everything seems linked to your home WiFi. Suggestions for a solution include:
- Restart the WiFi, or reset the connection to the phone (forget the network and reconnect)
- Restart your home WiFi router
- Reinstall the app
- Use a different WiFi or mobile data. If none of these helps, a hard reset of the device is possible
Tracker recording does not copy my actual route, the recording contains errors, the app runs poorly in the background
On some devices, background application permissions and GPS access must be allowed in the system settings for the app to function properly. If not allowed, the application may be terminated in the background, or may not record the route in Tracker as it has no GPS access. The location in Settings varies by manufacturer and Android system. Background operation is also affected by battery saver, which should be disabled for the Mapy.com application.
Inaccurate altitudes in Tracker activity
The elevation profile in the activity record in Tracker is calculated directly from the actual data from your GPS. It greatly depends on its accuracy and many other circumstances such as weather, signal reflections in the landscape, phone placement on your body, whether the device contains a digital barometer, etc. The data can thus be variously distorted. Even though we filter and further process all data, it might still be possible that the altitude data is incorrect.
Offline maps cannot be saved to the SD card
- Restart the device and try again
- It might also help not to move the application to the card in app manager. Ideally, keep the application in the internal memory (app) and choose and save the application data (maps) on the card
- Alternatively, go to Mobile Settings, App Manager, Mapy.com, Permissions, Grant Storage Permissions
- If nothing helps, then go to Mobile Settings, App Manager, Mapy.com, Clear app data. Then go to the app and try to download maps again
- Saving to the SD card is offered when the first offline map is downloaded. If you want to change the storage, delete the maps and reselect where to save the maps
- App data can be found in storage at: Android/data/cz.seznam.mapy/files
My current GPS position is inaccurate, navigation says Waiting for GPS signal
You can influence position accuracy yourself in your mobile device settings, Location settings, High Accuracy. Alternatively, by moving in areas with good GPS signals. Since GPS position is determined using Google Play Services, check whether this app has GPS access permission and is up-to-date. The time set by the carrier is required (e.g., automatic time). Sometimes, a simple restart of your device may help. It might also help to set GPS permissions for the Mapy.com app in Settings – access to GPS: Always, always allow.
The navigation is silent or the volume is low
It is necessary to set the volume using the buttons on your mobile (it’s not the ringtone volume, but the media channel). If connected by Bluetooth in the car and it does not work, you need to start the navigation, Menu, Settings, and choose the correct option for voice output:
- Output via Bluetooth: If, for example, in the car the radio output is selected (AUX), it plays instructions
- Only from speaker: Even when connected to Bluetooth, it still plays only through the speaker
- As a phone call: In the car, when connected via Bluetooth, it announces commands even through playing radio
Try selecting a different voice in settings. There may not be a downloaded Czech TTS (Text to Speech) voice, so start the mobile settings, Languages & input, Text-to-speech, Download and select Czech.
Alternatively, try the Text-to-Speech app.
- Navigation speaks quietly: The TTS module cannot have a higher volume. You need to start navigation, Menu, Settings, and select a different voice
- Navigation speaks only for a while and then is silent: The TTS module may not be downloaded to offline, and you are close to WiFi, so it loads the first few commands, but once you are offline again, it does not speak. The solution is to download TTS module for offline use in your phone’s Settings
- Navigation speaks too fast or slow: In TTS Settings, you need to reduce speech rate
Synchronization in My Mapy doesn't work, some data doesn't synchronize, app reports synchronization error. Unable to share an item from My Mapy
- If you haven’t synchronized for a long time, synchronization may take a while to transfer all the data
- Synchronization can also be triggered manually by the Synchronization button on the top right in My Mapy
- If the app still reports a synchronization error, please try logging out in the app and logging back in
- If a particular item cannot be synchronized, trying to rename it (forcing a new synchronization)
Reinstalling the app may result in the loss of all unsynchronized data. You can see what data is synchronized on Mapy.com after logging in to the My Mapy section. Currently, the app can’t display routes that include public transportation planning.
Compass points incorrectly
Making a few figure eights with the phone in hand to calibrate it might help. The problem might also be caused by a mobile cover containing a magnet, which disrupts the phone’s digital magnetic compass.
Does the app support GPX import and export?
How to change the app language and units?
In the Settings section, you can set any language and units.
How to download offline maps?
- Updates of offline maps are not mandatory, you do not have to download them if you do not have a sufficient connection
- You don’t need 30 GB of maps downloaded, just have the area you need, you can always download more if needed, updates will be more flexible and faster that way
- A new installation from the store has the version of offline maps that the app knows. We recommend leaving the app on WiFi for a while to check if there is anything new
- Offline maps are unavailable after pressing update; this happens when the update is incompatible, and it is not possible to have a mixture of new and old offline maps. Therefore, do not download an offline map update when you do not have a stable and reliable connection
The device's battery drains quickly
Most often, it is related to the current configuration of your device. A device restart is recommended. If problems persist, a reinstallation of the app or a hard reset of the device is possible.
What consumes the most battery?
- The display consumes the most: You can reduce consumption by turning off the display and listening to navigation by voice only, or lighting up only before intersections
- Mobile connection: Constantly changing connections in nature consume a lot of battery. You can reduce consumption by downloading offline maps (transferring less data), or by completely disabling internet connection. Not recommended for car navigation, as you’ll miss out on current traffic information
- GPS
- App consumption: The app itself consumes the least, assuming you have offline maps downloaded and don’t download them during trips
Expected values (assuming offline maps are downloaded):
- Navigation, screen on: 25% battery per hour
- Tracker running, screen off: 5% battery per hour
Links to Mapy.com do not open in the app but on the web?
Clicking a link on your device gives you the option to choose which app to open the link with. After selecting the Mapy.com app, all links will open in it. If another app or browser is selected, they will open there. To change this decision, you need to clear the default apps. Ideally, do this in the app where you see the link and will click on it (e.g., email). A possible solution is copying the URL address into the app’s search. The app will then always respond to the URL.
The version of maps in the app is older than what I see on Mapy.com web?
While we update the map base approximately once a week in the web version of Mapy.com, we release new offline maps for the mobile application less frequently. Hence, it is possible that the map in your mobile application is older than what is visible on Mapy.com. Don’t forget to download the offline map update when the mobile application offers it.
Login in the app sticks or it is not possible to send SMS from abroad?
In the event of a problem with logging in to the Seznam account, when the process gets stuck and does not continue, it is recommended to download another browser to the device and set it as the default. This will use its WebView, which we use for the login process, and should resolve the issue with sticking. In case of difficulties sending a registration SMS from abroad, we recommend using external providers for login, who are available as alternatives, e.g., Google, Microsoft, or Apple.

The navigation is silent or the volume is low
The running navigation is silent (even at times when it should provide driving instructions). Please check which voice for Czech you have downloaded. The voice used by SIRI is set in System Settings, Accessibility, Reading Content, Voices (there are more choices available). Or set the volume using the buttons on the mobile (not the ringtone volume, but the media channel volume).
Compass points incorrectly
Go to Settings, Privacy, Location Services, System Services, and enable Compass Calibration. Making a few figure eights with the phone in hand to calibrate it might help. The problem might also be caused by a mobile cover containing a magnet, which disrupts the phone’s digital magnetic compass.

Downloading offline maps in background interrupts
As of app version 6.32.0, it is already possible to download offline maps in the background on WiFi. Due to the iOS system, this is not possible on mobile data.

Links to Mapy.com do not open in the app but on the web?
Clicking a link on your device should open the app. Unfortunately, on iOS, this cannot be enforced. Thus, opening a responsive webpage in a browser might occur. Sometimes it is possible to enforce the link to open in the app by long pressing the link and accessing the open options. Copying the URL into the app’s search is another possible solution. The app will then always respond to the URL.
